Des and Amanda Imms are keen runners, trail runners and hikers. Some of their favourite places to run and hike include Pukenui Forest, Glenbervie Forest and Bream Head. They started getting a (bit) serious about their running in 2018 and ran their first event, the 30th anniversary of the Kerikeri Half Marathon, in 2019. Their first mountain race was the Goat Alpine Adventure Run in 2021. They both ran their first ultra at the Tarawera Ultra Marathon 50km, Des in 2023 and Amanda in 2024.

Des and Amanda started Trek Trail & Fish in 2020. At the time, there were no specialist trail running stores in the area, which could advise on things like required gear for mountain races and ultras, or supply certain brands, shoes and equipment which are popular with trail runners. So, they took a leap of faith and endeavoured to fill the gap.

The store continued to grow over the next few years and they continually expanded their product range, eventually taking the store online in 2023, and began delivering to the whole of New Zealand.

Now, through Trek Trail and Fish, they sponsor local running events (Trek Trail & Fish is the named sponsor for the Bay of Islands 50k) and also support the local running club Hatea.Run.

They love to talk running and trail running, but one of them is a real talker and the other is more quiet. We'll leave it you to figure out which is which!
